Tiki Grahams: Kid's Kitchen Creation

Updated: Jul 18

TIKI TIME!

Tiki Grahams: Tiki Unit Kitchen Creation

I'M TALKING TIKIS!

Building up to our last week of homeschool, I always use the last weeks to serve as clues for my kiddos to try and guess what our last topic of the year will be.

I've used topics like soda and pizza to clue them in to our arcade unit.

Popcorn and ice cream lessons to clue them into our circus unit.

Each homeschool year is special, so I wanted to give them a lasting impression of just how much fun and learning we had shared in together.

This end of year was coming into focus, and their clues so far had been our Jellyfish Unit and Pineapple Unit. Yes, my kids were hot on my trail now, and our Tiki Unit was the last hint that would most certainly help them affirm their private guess.

Would they be correct? Did they know exactly where our last learning adventure of the school year would take us?

I was excited to see, and with only days left to go, I wasn't going to have to wait long.

TASTY TIKI!

For now though, we were in our Tiki Lesson, soaking up the fun learning this topic had to offer. Rich in mythology, history, and culture, this lesson had plenty of concepts to grow on. But first, an introduction, in the form of a kitchen creation was being etched into my brain, and it was going to make one tasty tiki!

Grab your (kitchen) tools, bring your sweet tooth, and let's carve out this treat!

TIKI GRAHAMS

Tiki Grahams: Tiki Unit Kitchen Creation

What You'll Need:

Graham Crackers

Brown Candy Melts

Colored Icing

Food Marker (optional)

Toothpicks

X-acto knife

Let's Make It!

Step 1: Lay out a full graham cracker on the work surface. Use the food writer pen to draw an outline of a mouth and two eyes on the graham cracker. (If a food writer pen is not available, skip this step.)

Step 2: Use an X-acto knife to cut out the mouth shape and the eye shapes from the graham cracker.

(Adult supervision/assistance needed for little ones)

Step 3: In a microwavable bowl, melt down the brown candy melts. Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave.

Step 4: Spread the melted candy melts over the graham cracker in a smooth coat.

Step 5: Place the graham cracker in the freezer for approximately 2 minutes to allow the candy to harden.

Step 6: Once the candy has hardened, remove the graham cracker from the freezer.

Step 7: Get creative! Use a toothpick to carve tiki mask designs into the hardened candy coating.

Step 8: Use the icing tubes to pipe on colors to fill in the carvings made in the candy coating. Alternatively, you could choose to leave the tiki mask colorless/without icing colors, if you prefer.

Step 9: Once detailing is done, allow the Tiki Graham to set so that the icing can set up.

Step 10: Once the icing has set up, display the Tiki Grahams using crushed graham crackers, and some stacked graham crackers to prop up the Tikis.

Serve and Enjoy!
