SMELL THE AROMA
A lovely way to introduce our homeschool lesson plan about wreaths, was through our noses!
With a slight adjustment on an great idea, we had a tailored kitchen creation that invited us to take a closer look into the different sentiments and greens of this timeless tradition.
Together we created simmer herb wreaths that, once simmering, filled our home with beautiful fragrances of the season.
The ease of this creation and its ability to engage our learning experience, was a fun and meaningful time together, that I plan to make a new Christmas tradition.
After exploring the Christmas tree lot and the different types of evergreens, we collected some free scrap tree trimmings, then headed for home.
With some added herbs and spices, our simmer herb wreaths were ready to bathe!
If you're looking for a festive new tradition, or homemade gift idea, you will be delighted with these simmer herb wreaths. While we used them for Christmas time, they can be used for any season to make a pleasant aroma to your home.

Simmer Herb Wreath
What You'll Need:
Evergreen foliage (pine/cedar trimmings)
Citrus (orange/lemon)
Cinnamon sticks
Herbs of your choice
(We chose Rosemary, Sage, Thyme, Bay Leaves)
Twine or string
Water
Small pot
Let's Make It!
Step 1: Prepare the ingredients. Cut the citrus into slices, trim the evergreen into smaller sections, lay out the selected herbs.
Step 2: Add sections of the evergreen together, layering pieces together, in order to make a circle shape. Use the twine/string to hold the shape, by tying together the evergreen pieces.
Step 3: Dress your wreath. Add your selected options to the frame of the wreath, and using additional twine/string to tie them onto the wreath.
Step 4: Bring a pot of water to a simmering heat. Carefully add in the simmer wreath. Allow the wreath to simmer in the pot in order to release the fragrances.
Enjoy the smells of the season!
