Worm What?
It may sound like a strange combination, food and worms, but when you are a homeschool family, anything used to drive their education further is on the table. We've done some odd edible creations to explore or to introduce our topics;
edible moss, werewolf waffles, soil layer lasagna...the list continues.
I knew with a worms lesson plan, things were going to get a bit unusual-
and for the sake of science, of course!
While I had our fried worms plan to cook up with our reading of How To Eat Fried Worms, I was also looking for a fun and tasty way to introduce the anatomy of a worm. It may not occur to most to pair something to eat while exploring anatomy, but to us, it's just a day in the life in our homeschool! I was certainly going to need a food that resembled segments and the coiled body type, so down the mental store aisles I went, and landed on the ingredients for what we now call "Worm Rolls".
If a worm lesson plan is wiggling your way, then here's a fun and easy kitchen creation to enjoy, along with growing their learning inch by inch!

WORM ROLLS
What You'll Need:
Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
Powdered Sugar
Milk
Food Coloring
Parchment Paper
Optional Display Ingredients:
Graham Crackers
Green Sprinkles
Let's Make It:
Step 1: Preheat the oven as directed on
the Pillsbury tube.
Step 2: Line a baking sheet with parchment
paper. Use the pre-cut sections of dough to
roll up the crescents, but roll the dough
more tightly, and keep the roll straight rather
than curving it into the crescent shape.
Step 3: Place the rolls into the preheated oven and bake according to the instructions
on the Pillsbury tube.
Step 4: Prepare the frosting. Add 2 cups of powdered sugar to a bowl. Add in roughly 1 cup of milk to the powdered sugar. Use a hand mixer and mix ingredients together.
Add ingredients if needed to achieve a slightly thick consistency. Add in drops of food coloring to achieve your desired worm color.
Step 5: Once the rolls have cooled, spread on the frosting over the rolls, or dip and cover the rolls in the bowl of frosting.
Step 6: Allow the frosting to set up, or for a faster result, place the sheet of frosted rolls into the fridge until the frosting has set.
Step 7: As an optional display, crush up graham crackers and pour onto a cutting board. Add the green sprinkles around the graham cracker crumbs. Lay the worm rolls on top of the graham crackers.
Serve and enjoy!
