A Fun Juice Creation
Trolls, Really?
It may seem like an obscure theme, but when you've been homeschooling for as long as I have, anything makes for an interesting learning adventure.
We've been around the horn more than a couple of times, so once we explored the tradition festive lessons; pumpkins, gourds, ghosts, mummies, and monsters, what then?
I had to get creative if I wanted to keep our festive units going, so creative I got!
From swamp creature to candy corn and vampires, my wild topics were reaching new heights. So now knowing that, you may not find a lesson about trolls that unusual.
I certainly didn't. In fact, I love the challenge.
Largely because as I have found in our years of homeschooling, the seemingly odd topics, hold the most amazing learning concepts, and trolls were no exception; engineering, petrification, money concepts, and more!
Check out the Trolls Lesson Plan, complete with learning activities, games, S.T.E.M, and more!
Packed within each lesson, I'm sure to continue one of our favorite activities-
a kitchen creation. My kids and I have loved crafting and creating together in the kitchen since they were just babies, and in order to keep their kitchen skills growing, I include some kind of recipe or creation however big or small.

So our kitchen creation for our Troll Week took a tart turn, that became what we called Troll Tonic. A drink themed upon a troll, and its fantasy palate.
Gather your young trolls, and see if they delight in this fun juice creation as much as we did.
TROLL TONIC
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
Green Candy Melts
Gummy Eyeballs
Mint
V8 Deliciously Green Juice
Key Lime Flavored Water
Tonic Water
Lime Sherbet
Clear Plastic Cups
Sharpie Marker
Parchment Paper
Baking Sheet
LET'S MAKE IT!
Step 1: Make the ear template. On paper, draw outlines of ear shapes. Place the paper onto a baking sheet. Place parchment paper over the ear drawings. Place the green candy melts in a microwavable bowl, and heat until melted. Carefully remove the bowl, and spoon out the candy onto the paper, following your outline. Once done, place the sheet into the freezer to set the candy.
Step 2: Use a sharpie marker to draw a large troll nose shape on a plastic cup. Use a bit of the melted candy to attach the two eyeballs onto the front of the cup, near the nose. Place the cup in the freezer to allow the candy to harden.
Step 3: Once the candy has set and the eyeballs are attached, remove it from the freezer. Fill the cup with a spoonful of sherbet, then fill with the V8 juice, lime juice, and a splash of tonic water. Garnish with a sprig of mint.
Step 4: Attach the ears. Remove the candy ears from the freezer. Dip the edge of the ear into the bowl of the remaining melted candy, press and hold the ear onto the side of the cup. Allow the candy to harden in order that it sticks to the cup. Repeat this step for the other ear.
Step 5: Once all the pieces have hardened, serve with a straw and enjoy!
