Something Fun and Delicious Is Slowly Heading Your Way!

TORTOISE TIME!

We were making our way into a fresh week of homeschool learning, with a lesson plan focused on the fascinating tortoise.

As a fun way to introduce our topic and aspects of its anatomy, I gathered up a few sweet ingredients that would get our discussion going, as well as our taste buds.

This was going to be an easy kitchen creation that would bring smiles to my kiddos, and bring learning right out of its shell.

Within minutes we had simple and cute creations, that highlighted some of a tortoise's features. With a helpful paired worksheet I had prepared,

"What's On A Tortoise?", we had an introductory sampling of our week's subject.

If a tortoise-lover is in your family, our Tortoise Tarts are sure to please!

LET'S MAKE IT!

Step 1: Carefully remove, or tear off, the sides of the

tart shell so that you are left with only the flat bottom

of shell.

Step 2: Remove the wrapping from approximately 8 caramels. Add the caramels to a small microwavable bowl. Heat the caramels for thirty seconds, or until melted. Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave.

Step 3: Assemble the tortoise. Dip the tip of a candy melt into the caramel. Stick the candy melt onto the flat tart shell.

Step 4: Next, dip the tip of a peanut into the caramel and stick to the flat tart shell to resemble the tortoise's leg. Repeat this step to attach three more legs. Set aside.

Step 5: Using another full tart shell, turn the shell over and cover the bottom of the shell in caramel.

Step 6: Press on multiple peanuts into the caramel to cover the tart shell. Set aside.

Step 7: Fill the area on the previously assembled tortoise piece with raisins and chocolate chips. NOTE: you may wish to add other goodies, such as dried cranberries or banana chips.

Step 8: Stack on prepared shell to cover the goodies inside the tortoise body.

Step 9: Enjoy by flipping over the tortoise, allowing for the goodies to fall into the full tart cup/shell. Eat the tortoise body piece and shell once the goodies are gone!
